Parks & Gardens

Our favourite and just minutes from the apartment is le parc de la colline du chateau. Site of the original city, the Castle Hill once boasted a reputedly impregnable citadel that was entirely dismantled by the soldiers of King Louis XIV in 1706. Today you will find the ancient cemetery – an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place bursting with sculptures and ornate mausoleums – and the chateau ruins. It is also where you will find the waterfall (la cascade) that can be seen from our balcony. The park offers a wonderful viewpoint over the Baie des Anges, old Nice and the Port.

If you hire a car for the day, another must-see is the spectacular parc naturel departemental de la grande corniche. This 660-hectare park offers breathtaking views from San Remo, Italy to Saint-Tropez and sometimes, when visibility is good, it is even possible to see Corsica on the horizon. This site is home to 450 plant species as well as interesting fauna, including birds of prey, rare bird species and many mammals.
